Iowa fans throw beer cans toward taunting Oregon players after loss

Oregon football staved off an upset on the road at Iowa in Week 11 of the college football season thanks to a game-winning 39-yard field goal from Atticus Sappington.

As captured by Owen Siebring on X (formerly Twitter), several Oregon players went to the north end zone of the stadium to celebrate the win in front of Iowa fans. Hawkeyes fans retaliated by throwing beer cans and debris toward the Ducks players.

Trailing 16-15 with less than two minutes to go in the fourth quarter, Oregon, led by quarterback Dante Moore, mounted a game-winning drive that ended in a Sappington field goal, his third successful kick of the game.

‘We do a lot of pressure kicks in practice and try and recreate it but there ain’t nothing like 70,000 fans, right? Last second of the game … having to kick that kick,’ Oregon coach Dan Lanning said after the game on Sappington’s kick. ‘Can’t recreate that in practice and Atticus handled it like a champ.’

With the win, No. 6 Oregon (No. 9 in CFP) not only keeps itself near the top of the Big Ten standings at 5-1 in conference play, but also maintains a strong position for the second set of CFP rankings. Meanwhile, the loss likely will drop Kirk Ferentz’s squad out of both the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 poll.

Next up for Oregon will be a Friday night home kickoff against Minnesota on Friday, Nov. 14 at Autzen Stadium. Iowa will look to bounce back in its Week 12 road trip out to Los Angeles to face No. 21 USC (No. 19 CFP) on Saturday, Nov. 15.
